The brief history of

Staten Island Softball

Association

HISTORY OF STATEN ISLAND SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION:

The League actually started in 1953 as S. I. East Shore Softball League. It was first presided over by the late Jerry Healy as president. Some of the teams were the "mickey Jays", "the stape darts", "ye olde dutchmans", "immaculate men's club", and "the rosebank cardinals". The League was turned over to Ben Defibaugh and Vinny Scarmedella in 1960, serving dozens of softball leagues, comprising of hundreds of teams throughout the years. In 1997, our former commissioner - Ben Defibaugh - officially retired and handed over the reigns to George Hind - our current commissioner. Thanks to Bob Burmeister (Acme AC) for supplying us with "the early years information".

George Hind, Commissioner with wife of 50 yrs, Corrine!

Although through the years we have serviced many different leagues, we currently are working with the following leagues for 2010:

Although Commissioner Hind provides officials for the following leagues, this site no longer provides information for them due to time constraints.

  • S I Women's Slow League
  • S I Co-Ed league
  • Bob Illig league
